Duke of Kent School was founded in 1976 by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. The School’s name honoured Prince George, the Duke of Kent, (1902-1942), who died in an air crash during the Second World War. The School was established primarily to educate the sons of former and serving RAF personnel. Many pupils were Foundationers, some of whom had lost fathers on active service. The School was formed by merging Vanbrugh Castle School with an existing School, Woolpit, at the Ewhurst site.

Academic Life: We recognise the strengths and individuality of each of our pupils, harness their abilities, and allow them to flourish. We want our students to develop a life-long love of learning and we think they learn best when they are happy and actively involved in their education. Our teachers inspire a love of learning and nurture enquiring minds.
Performing Arts: Music, Drama and Dance are at the very heart of School life. We see confidence as the key to success and every pupil at Duke of Kent School is given many opportunities to become involved in our award – winning Performing Arts Department, in and beyond the classroom and on or behind the stage. We present a wide range of traditional and more modern performances. Specialist teachers take time, both in and out of lessons, to help pupils develop their skills and confidence, ensuring that they are ready to perform. Opportunities to play or sing, individually or as part of an ensemble, and to act or get involved behind the scenes, are available throughout the Senior School.
Sport: Our sports programme is designed to enable pupils to lead a healthy, active lifestyle – and to understand why this matters. The benefits are physical, social and emotional: we see this aspect of our programme as central to our students’ well-being.
Behaviour: Our expectations of behaviour are extremely high. Respect for others, for oneself and for the environment are at the heart of our School Code. This sets down clearly all the rules and expected behaviours of our community. A system of rewards and sanctions encourages pupils to understand and develop appropriate behaviour. Weekly sessions of Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education with form teachers, supplemented by visiting expert speakers, give pupils opportunities to explore issues connected with well-being, relationships and self-management.
