Thames Christian School, London
In a city full of schools, we offer something different: an artisanal education, carefully crafted for each child as an individual. As a small school, our curriculum is remarkably broad. Situated one minute from Clapham Junction, Thames offers outstanding facilities for students to discover and become passionate about their gifts and talents. The design of our RIBA award winning building enables pupils to combine subjects traditionally perceived as separate paths.
The Arts: The Creative Arts curriculum includes the visual and performing arts, music, design technology and fashion & textiles. The ability to think creatively is vital in an AI driven world, so we have made significant investment into these subjects, including a theater with professional sound and lighting, individual music rooms, a dance studio, a fully equipped DT workshop and STEAM design studio, textiles and art studios and a cookery classroom.
Pastoral Care: Our ethos is deeply relational and rooted in Christian values with mutual respect and self-responsibility at its heart. By creating an environment of trust, pupils learn to listen to and learn from one another. The Thames Wellbeing Programme places a strong emphasis on personal development, forming healthy relationships and constructive engagement in society.
Head: Mr Stephen Holsgrove
Sport: Fixtures provide regular opportunities to represent the school at sporting events. Sports afternoons are divided into three strands: traditional team sports, such as football, rugby and netball; individual sports like badminton, athletics, tennis and table tennis; and individual sports such as self defence and fitness. In addition pupils have up to two further hours of PE.
Co-Curricular: The exciting offer of co-curricular activities in academic, sporting and creative subjects, coupled with our small size, enables pupils to have a high degree of participation. Excellent use is made of the museums, theatres, galleries and other learning environments in and around London.
Residential trips and camps take pupils outside their comfort zone and expand their horizons. Overseas trips are opportunities to brush up on language skills, geography, science, history and for volunteering. Clubs and societies cover a wide range of interests.
Food & Nutrition: Our passion is for all young people to learn about healthy eating, budgeting and how to cook. Cookery is an integral part of the curriculum for every year group in the school. The Bake off and International Food clubs are always over-subscribed.
